Post-Surgical (Post-Op) Pain

In addition to emotional trauma, surgery may leave adhesions in your tissue and severely impact the function of muscles, tendons or ligaments. Even after your tissue has healed, your central nervous system continues to be affected, and your brain continues to send pain signals that result in dyfunction and often in chronic pain.

P-DTR can turn off the pain signals to enable your muscles to function properly again, thereby minimizing the need for pain medications such as opioids. It can also release emotional trauma from surgery that may delay a full recovery. In addition, I may also use Cranial Therapy and Tuina to calm your nervous system, as well as manual therapy (Lymphatic Drainage, Trigger Point Therapy, Orthopedic Massage, and Myofascial Release,).  I will also release your scar tissue, which can help reduce unsightly scarring and relieve pain and dysfunction that is caused by the scar.  I am especially versed in treating frozen shoulder, a condition that often occurs after shoulder surgery.

Any tissue should be completely healed in less than a month after surgery. And although I have had great results with P-DTR even years after surgery, I recommend therapy as soon after your operation as possible (about a week).

Please always inform your surgical and/or primary physician if you come to see me shortly after surgery.  I may also request x-rays or CT scans.
